Union Cabinet Approves ₹63,246 Cr Phase-II of Chennai Metro Project

The Union Cabinet has approved Phase-II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, comprising three corridors spanning 118.9 km with 128 stations. Estimated at ₹63,246 crore, the project is set for completion by 2027, expanding the city's metro network to 173 km. The Tamil Nadu government recently secured ₹7,425 crore in central funding. The corridors will connect key areas including Madhavaram, Perambur, Thirumayilai, Adyar, and Sholinganallur, enhancing transportation for IT workers and residents in industrial, commercial, and residential zones.
