Union Cabinet Approves Rs 1,067 Cr Ahmedabad Metro Extension from GIFT City to Shahpur

Ahemdabad-Metro
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the 3.33 km extension of the Ahmedabad Metro from GIFT City to Shahpur. The elevated corridor will include three stations and is scheduled for completion within four years at an estimated cost of Rs 1,067.35 crore.

The extension is projected to serve around 23,702 passengers daily by 2029, increasing to nearly 58,059 passengers by 2041. It is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Ahmedabad and the GIFT City region, benefiting multinational companies, educational institutions and commercial centres along the route.

The Gujarat Metro network currently spans 68.28 km, covering Phase I from APMC to Motera Stadium and Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam, and Phase II from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir and GNLU to GIFT City. A total of 53 stations are operational, with daily ridership of approximately 1,60,000 passengers.

The project is expected to generate around 1,000 construction jobs and about 250 employment opportunities during operations and maintenance, along with additional indirect employment. The corridor will be implemented by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat.
