Ukkadam flyover worth Rs. 216-cr off to a flying start in TN

The State Highways Department has recently launched the construction work on the four-lane flyover from Vincent Road junction to Karumbukkadai junction entailing an investment of Rs. 216 crore. The project would have a down loop opposite Vincent Road (old fish market area) and a two-lane from Naaz Theatre to Vincent Road. The cost for land acquisition and utility line shifting alone would be worth Rs 80.61 crore. For facilitating the project, as many as 28 shops were removed and about 60 dwelling units of washer-men and another 72 of health workers in old fish market area were cleared. With the launch of the project on the Ukkadam flyover, the departments concerned have started work for an alternative road till the works are completed and recovering more land identified for the project, and shifting of the utility lines are currently in full swing, said sources.
