The Uttarakhand government has targeted projects worth ₹3,626 crore to be executed for the Maha Kumbh mela slated to be held in Haridwar in 2021, said state urban development spokesperson, Madan Kaushik, and the state administration has directed PWD, irrigation and power wings, to prepare estimates for the works to be taken up on a fast track basis. As per the tentative breakup, around 25% of the funds are to be deployed for PWD; 20% each for the police and irrigation departments; while the rest would be divided amongst departments like Jal Nigam, power and civic agencies etc. Unlike the Prayag Kumbh where tented colonies had to be set up for over 10 lakh visitors along the Ganga river, Haridwar already has scores of ashrams for pilgrims.
