U'khand kick-starts Laldhang-Chillarkhal road corridor

Laldhang-Chillarkhal road corridor
After the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) gave its nod for building the Laldhang-Chillarkhal road corridor through the buffer zone Rajaji Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand government has now started the construction work on the mega project as informed by the state forest minister, Harak Singh Rawat. It is an important link route connecting Kotdwar. After going through the recommendations of The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) of building underpasses for animals and forest land transfer, the NBWL had approved the proposed road. The NBWL recommended the proposal for building the road with certain conditions including the construction of an elevated road (underpass for animals) with substantial clearance for elephants (8m above ground to provide safe passage) needs to be undertaken for the central stretch of 4.7 km from Chamaraia bend to Siggadi sot. The recommendations further mentioned that at least 100 metres of passageways per km are provided for the movement of wild animals.
