Tuticorin airport awaits ₹500-cr upgrade

Airports Authority of India has decided to carry out expansion of the Tuticorin airport at an investment of ₹500 crore, airport director N Subramanian, said. Work will commence shortly and the project will be commissioned by 2022. The district administration has handed over 601 acres of land to the AAI as the existing airport is located on 188 acres. There has been demand for expanding the airport, the only one beyond Madurai in southern Tamil Nadu, for improvement of trade, tourism and domestic travel in Tuticorin and neighboring Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram and Kanyakumari districts.
