In a step towards making government's double bedroom (2BHK) housing scheme a reality, the state concerned agencies have started making arrangements to shift slum-dwellers from 18 slums. In the first phase, 5,934 flats will be built at 18 locations in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts and has roped in an NGO called SRACO to counsel the occupants on the significance of the housing scheme to make it a big success. Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy collectors in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have identified 18 slums in Secunderabad, Sanatnagar, Goshamahal, Nampally, Karwan, Secunderabad cantonment, Musheerabad, Malakpet, LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, and Uppal assembly constituencies. The occupants have given consent to construct 2BHK flats and will also acquire the land soon and begin construction, GHMC Commissioner, B Janardhan Reddy said, adding that the civic body will construct the flats either as G+3 or G+9 structures. Tenders have been floated and entire project awarding process will be finalized shortly.
