Telangana takes up 15-km Warangal metro project

In a bid to speed up the metro project in the state, the Telangana government has recently given task of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for Warangal MetroNeo to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro), managing director, Maha Metro, Brijesh Dixit, said adding that in this connection, he met municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao and gave a presentation on their ongoing projects. After the presentation, KTR requested Maha Metro to take up DPR for rubber tyre metro for Warangal for a length of 15 km and in turn KTR also asked Hyderabad Metro Rail officials to study the ongoing Metro Neo project in Nashik and submit a report to the state government. Metro Neo, an innovative mass rapid transit project and light metro rail project, could be taken up both as elevated and ground-level network. The cost of a conventional Metro project executed in other states of the country was Rs 250 crore per km, while Maha Metro was executing the same at Rs 180 crore per km. ―Metro Neo in Telangana is likley to cost Rs 72 crore per km, he added.
