Telangana takes up 1,500 km road projects

The newly created state, Telangana, has decided to convert 15 state roads into National Highways and has also planned to rebuild 1,500 km existing roads across the state, Roads and Buildings Minister, Tummala Nageshwar Rao said, claiming that the state government has directed officials to send proposals to the Centre seeking mandatory approval from the Central government. Proposals for 15 new National Highways being sent to the Centre include 235 km Hyderabad-Karimnagar-Ramagundam, 60 km Narketpally-Miryalguda-Vadapally and 74 km Jadcherla-Wanaparthy-Pebbair, among others. After the formation of Telangana, the density of NHs increased to 4.78 km/100 sq km from 2.1 km/100 sq km. The move will prove handy for the State to surpass others at the national level. The Minister also reviewed road works of Rs. 2,690-cr sanctioned by the Centre and took stock of the tender process of road works of Rs. 1,020-cr approved from the Central Road Fund.
