Tamil Nadu Govt Approves ₹8,000 Cr for 20,000 km of Rural Roads

The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned the development of 20,000 km of rural roads under the Mudalvarin Grama Saalaigal Membattu Thittam (MGSMT), also known as the Chief Minister’s Rural Roads Development Scheme, with an outlay of ₹8,000 crore.

As per a government release highlighting the achievements of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin approved the improvement of rural road infrastructure under this initiative. So far, 9,690 projects covering 12,572 km of roads have been completed at a cost of ₹4,609 crore. Work on an additional 6,671 km is in progress, with a sanctioned amount of ₹3,529 crore. The scheme was launched in 2022–23.

In parallel, under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam Scheme, aimed at making Tamil Nadu hut-free by 2030, the state government has approved ₹7,000 crore to build 2 lakh houses within the next two years.
