The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Central Water Commission (CWC) has approved the Polavaram Project's revised cost of ₹55,548 crore and has also cleared the second detailed project report (DPR-2). According to Chief Engineer, Polavaram Project, Sridhar Veeramachineni, the cost of the project was estimated to be ₹16,010.45 crore at the 2010-11 level and the State government of Andhra Pradesh had submitted a revised estimate of ₹57,940.86 crore at 2013-14 level. The TAC however approved the 2017-18 level and now the estimate will have to be approved by the Union Finance Ministry before it is sent to the Union Cabinet for final approval. The approval by the TAC is supposed to be crucial for the project, as the state has already spent ₹3,866.79 crore on the mega water infrastructure project.
