Steering Committee steers clears Jewar airport project

Jewar airport project
The upcoming Greenfield Airport at Gautam Budh Nagar‘s Jewar area has been given an in-principal approval by the Centre‘s steering committee, said official sources, adding that the detailed project report and techno-economic feasibility report for the project has been prepared by Price Waterhouse Coopers. As per the report, 1,441 hectare land in eight villages has to be acquired for the airport and this has to be done within a year and the airport will be commissioned by 2022. The government will follow the PPP mode for its development and work will take place in four phases at a staggering investment of Rs 15,754 crore. The airport will have two runways with a capacity to handle 70 million passengers annually and that the cargo airport will be developed to handle 3 million metric tons per annum. Work on the mega project started in April 2017 and it is because of the coordination between the centre and the state the project managed to get speedy in-principal approval for which the Yamina Expressway Industrial Development Authority has been appointed as the nodal agency, said an industry insider.
