Cidco sharpens plan for Rs. 252-cr bridges

In order to ensure smooth movement of vehicular traffic, City and Industrial Corporation of Maharashtra (Cidco) has decided to construct three bridges at a cost of Rs. 252 crore over the Panvel creek to reroute high-voltage transmission lines, which will navigate through the upcoming international airport area. One of the three bridges is a stilt over mangroves measuring 1.7 km, while the other two will span 800 m and 1.3km respectively. Two of them will be from the Panvel side to Belapur, while the third will be from Panvel side to Kharghar railway station and Belapur, superintending engineer (airport) SH Dahedar said, elaborating that the nodal agency will be constructing three bridges from near Panvel to Belapur on the Panvel creek to reroute the high voltage transmission lines of MSETCL and Tata for the new airport. The 1.7 km stilt bridge work over mangroves is in its final stage of a selecting a contractor among the bidders. This bridge is being built to reduce damages to mangroves as the 1.3 km bridge will be Y-shaped with one arm towards Kharghar railway station side and the other towards Belapur side and that all the three bridges will be constructed within 14 months after the contracts awarded to the bidders.
