SC paves way for NH project in J&K

NH project in J&K
Supreme Court has cleared the decks for road widening and construction of a flyover on the Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch and Rajouri National Highway, by staying the operation of order from High Court whereby status quo was instructed to be maintained. The three Judge bench of Justice A M Khanwilkar, Justice B R Gawai and Justice Krishna Murari stayed the operation of the Division Bench order of J&K High Court. The project executing agency, National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), had challenged the High Court order before the Supreme Court on various grounds. The four-laning project is funded by the Central government. The work includes widening and building a flyover for which 99 of the total numbers of 126 pillars have already been constructed. The road connects sensitive border areas in J&K and travels from Jammu-Akhnoor to Poonch-Rajouri and then to Kashmir via Mughal road.
