Sabarmati High-Speed Rail Hub Gets IGBC Green Certification for Sustainable Multi-Modal Design

Sabarmati-High-Speed-Rail
The high-speed rail multi-modal hub at Sabarmati has been awarded Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) green certification, marking a sustainability milestone for India’s bullet train infrastructure. Designed as a seamless transit interchange, the hub connects Sabarmati railway station, the metro station, the under-construction Sabarmati bullet train station, and the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS).

On the eastern side of the bullet train station, three-foot overbridges with travelators support quick and effortless transfers between modes. The building’s facade features a stainless-steel mural depicting the Dandi March, adding cultural significance to the structure.

Key green features include rooftop solar panels, landscaped terraces, energy-efficient air conditioning and lighting, optimised natural daylighting and ventilation, and certified sustainable building materials. Water-saving measures such as low-flow fixtures and rainwater management systems have been integrated, while waste segregation is supported through dedicated collection points.

Designed as a twin-building configuration, the hub provides space for offices, commercial development and retail. A third-floor concourse houses waiting lounges, shops and restaurants to enhance passenger comfort and improve the overall travel experience.
