₹3,689 Cr Investment Approved for Two Hydro Projects in Arunachal Pradesh

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved investments for two major hydroelectric projects in Shi Yomi District, Arunachal Pradesh, with a combined outlay of ₹3,689 crore.
The first investment of ₹1,750 crore has been approved for the 186 MW Tato-I Hydroelectric Project. Set to be completed in 50 months, the project will generate 802 million units (MU) of electricity annually, improving Arunachal Pradesh’s power supply and contributing to national grid stability. The project will be executed by a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government.
The central government will provide ₹77.37 crore for enabling infrastructure, including 10 km of roads and bridges, alongside ₹120.43 crore as financial assistance for the state’s equity share.
The second project is the 240 MW Heo Hydroelectric Project, to be built at an estimated cost of ₹1,939 crore. It will produce 1,000 MU annually and it shares the same completion timeline and implementation strategy as the Tato-I project. The government has allocated ₹127.28 crore for infrastructure and ₹130.43 crore as equity assistance.
Both projects will provide Arunachal Pradesh with 12% free power and an additional 1% for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). The initiatives promise substantial infrastructure upgrades, socio-economic development, and enhanced power availability in the region, furthering India’s clean energy goals.
