Rs. 200 crore for Coimbatore & Chennai smart city projects

Coimbatore Chennai Smart City Projects
Special Purpose Vehicles(SPV) have been established in Coimbatore and Chennai for the smart city projects and Rs.200 crore as part of Central government grant of total Rs. 500-cr has been released, said Union Minister for Urban Development, M Venkaiah Naidu.

In his address during the launch of Chennai metro rail's airport line, the minister said, a total of 49 projects have been identified by Chennai and Coimbatore has identified four projects. The Centre has approved funds for Tamil Nadu, which includes Rs. 2,936-cr for Smart City Mission, Rs. 7,082-cr for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation mission, Rs. 340-cr for Swachh Bharat Mission, Rs. 45-cr for Hriday and Rs. 1,796-cr for Housing Mission.

He also said, recognising the significant cultural and historical heritage of the state, Kanchipuram and Velankanni have been selected under 12 heritage cities declared. The Union ministry has sanctioned Rs. 23.4-cr for Kanchipuram and Rs. 22.6-cr for Velankani.
