Union Govt plans 1,748 km frontier highway along Indo-China border

Indo-China border
The Union government has announced plans to build a 1,748 km frontier highway along the Indo-China border, close to the India-Tibet-China-Myanmar border. At certain locations, the highway will be 20 km from the international border. The highway, which has a strategic significance in terms of checking incursions and preventing migration from border areas, will be the longest National Highway to be notified in one go in recent times. It will be designated as NH-913 and will have an estimated cost of ₹27,000 crore. The highway will start in Bomdila and pass through Nafta, Huri, Monigong (the closest point on the India-Tibet border), Jido, Chenquenty (the closest points to the China border), and will terminate at Vijaynagar, near the India-Myanmar border. There will be nine packets that make up the full stretch, and around 800 km of the corridor will be greenfield, requiring the construction of tunnels and bridges. The transport ministry plans to complete the sanctioning of all works in 2024-25, with the highway to be completed by 2026-27.
