₹1,130-cr sanctioned for const of roads between Kolhapur and Sangli in Maharashtra

NHAI
The central government has approved a funding of ₹1,130 crore for the construction of major roads on a 62-km stretch between Kolhapur and Sangli districts in Maharashtra. The project will involve four-laning a 41-km stretch between Peth Naka and Sangli city, at a cost of ₹881 crore. This road, which connects Pune-Bengaluru National Highway-48 to Sangli city, has now been transferred to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and designated as NH 166 H. The four-laning will help alleviate congestion and reduce accidents on this important road, which is the only major road connecting Sangli city to NH-48 and has a significant economic importance. Additionally, ₹249 crore has been allocated for two road stretches connecting Kolhapur and Sindhudurg, which pass through the Karul Ghat. The ghat area frequently experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon and the road is often damaged, disrupting traffic for days. The new two-lane concrete road will be able to handle the rush of thousands of goods transport vehicles passing through the ghat section. This section falls under NH 166 G, which will also facilitate traffic movement between Sindhudurg and NH 166, passing through Kolhapur, and help passengers travelling from Sangli and Satara to reach the south Konkan region and Goa.
