MoRTH to build 12,200-km highways in the current fiscal
The Union Transport Ministry has set a target of constructing 12,200 km of National Highways during the 2022-23 fiscal year. As of November 2022, 4,766 km have been completed. In addition to the construction of highways and expressways, the ministry is also developing 35 Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) across the country as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative. These MMLPs will act as major cargo consolidation and distribution hubs, helping to increase the logistics efficiency of the Indian economy. The ministry has identified 191 points of congestion on the network, and de-congestion projects have already been completed at 56 of these points. Work on the remaining 83 points is currently under implementation, and the remaining 52 points will be awarded for construction by 2024-25.
