The Union government plans to build 37 additional roads, spanning 875 km in length, along the India-China border under the India-China Border Roads (ICBR-III) program, at an estimated cost of Rs 13,000 crore. Approximately 70% of these roads will be constructed in Arunachal Pradesh. The ongoing phase-I and II of ICBR aim to construct 1,435 km of roads in Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore. The ICBR-III program was recently initiated after a high-powered meeting to address the issues delaying the current two phases of the program. The proposal prioritizes the development of 22 roads under the ICBR-III, where the starting points are available, while the starting points for the remaining stretches will be available after the completion of the ongoing projects. The involved agencies, including BRO, CPWD, ITBP, and NHIDCL, have been instructed to fast track the process of awarding new contracts and completing ongoing projects as quickly as possible.
