Cabinet Approves Rs 8,970 Crore Guwahati-Tezpur Expressway Project in Assam
The corridor includes a 4.9-km Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Tezpur Bypass, planned in coordination with the Indian Air Force, and is expected to decongest the existing NH-27 corridor south of the Brahmaputra River. The project also includes five major bypasses spanning 58.7 km to ease congestion in Baihata Chariali, Sipajhar, Kharupetia, Dekiajuli and Tezpur.
The project scope comprises 15 major bridges, 30 minor bridges, 19 flyovers, 46 underpasses, one elephant underpass on the Tezpur Bypass, and 210 km of service roads to ensure smooth local traffic movement along the access-controlled highway.
Once completed, the corridor is expected to halve travel time, double average travel speeds, improve road safety, enhance fuel efficiency and reduce vehicle operating costs, strengthening regional connectivity and economic development.
The upgraded NH-15 corridor will provide seamless connectivity to eight PM Gati Shakti economic nodes, two aspirational districts (Darrang and Udalguri), three major tourist destinations—Maa Kamakhya Temple, Kaziranga National Park and Orang National Park—and seven logistics hubs, including major railway stations, airports and inland waterway terminals.
