BRO to build 135-km Chushul –Demchok highway along LAC

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has recently invited bids for the construction of the 135 km long Chushul-Dungti-Fukche-Demchok highway, also known as the CDFD road along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) starting from Chushul to Demchok matching to the National Highway single lane standards at a cost of ₹400 crore. The new road will run alongside the Indus River and parallel to the LAC, near the India-China border. The completion of this road will act as a major strategic advantage for India as it will enable quick movement of troops and equipment in case of a crisis with China. The road will also help in tourism by converting this area into a circuit. The highway will involve the construction of three important bridges and the BRO has already completed the Detailed Project Report of the planned highway stretch in 2018.
