ADB offers $484-mn for roads in Southern India

ADB
To boost the road sector in South India, a loan facility has been provided for financing road and highway construction works. The $484 million loan is being made available by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the financing will help in improving transport in the Chennai-Kanniyakumari Industrial Corridor, Tamil Nadu. In total, 590-km of roads will be improved in the area. The industrial development of the area will also benefit from the funding. Bridges and drainage facilities will be improved while some road sections will also be rebuilt with raised embankments. This in turn will help the road infrastructure to better cope with climate change factors in these areas of the country, particularly in low lying coastal areas where maintenance works will also be carried out routinely.
