RNVL to build 5 tunnels under Bhopal railway division

RVNL
Five tunnels with a length of 23 km will be constructed under Bhopal railway division by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RNVL) at Budni Midghat section to facilitate smooth movement of wild animals along the railway line. It will also build five overpasses and equal numbers of move underpasses with water facilities to the wildlife in the area. DRM Bhopal, Udai Borwanker informed that the work will be executed on a fast-track basis. The Budhni-Midghat section will have animal bridges just to minimize incidents of trains running over wild animals, including tigers and leopards, as a large number of deaths were reported in the area prompting the authorities to build animal bridges on the railway tracks. These structures will allow animals to safely cross man-made barriers like highways or rail tracks. The railway network in the area has been expanded with the laying of a third rail line that has specific provisions for safe passage of big cats. Moreover, the expert groups had advised the Madhya Pradesh government to build one-and-a-half-dozen over bridges and under paths, besides fencing to help wild animals negotiate a small stretch of a railway line passing through a sanctuary. The track cuts a corridor used by big cats from Ratapani sanctuary to approach the Gharadia nullah to drink water.
