Ranchi metro rail project back on track

Ranchi metro rail project
In view of the rapid expansion of the city, the state government of Jharkhand plans to build a mega metro rail project. The proposed monorail and metro project for Ranchi, which chief minister Raghubar Das had announced earlier, and was struck off the priority list as the Centre had rejected it on technical grounds, is now back on track. In the near future, Ranchi is bound to expand because of the growing population. The main city is spread over a few square km but people are gradually settling down in the fringes of the city. The Jharkhand High Court and the Assembly are being shifted outside the city limits and commuters will require a rapid transport system. Three cities of Jharkhand — Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad — have been categorized as tier-II cities, which has further boosted the prospects of the metro rail project in the city.
