Indian Railways has fast tracked the 136-km long rail line directly linking Raxaul in Bihar with Nepal's capital Kathmandu involving an investment of ₹16,550 crore, said chief spokesperson of East Central Railway (ECR), Rajesh Kumar. The survey work has been completed and is targeted for completion by 2030. The project is the outcome of an initiative by the PM during his visit to Kathmandu when a MoU was signed with his Nepalese counterparts for the railway project. The Ministry of External Affairs is funding the project. The project will have 32 road-over bridges, 53 underpasses, 259 minor bridges and 41 major bridges will be designed to facilitate the route, which would pass through 39 tunnels.
