Railways line up 84 freight projects worth ₹989-bn

In a bid to make the most out of increasing share in the freight cargo, Indian Railways has lined up 84 projects commanding a length of 9,259 km and entailing a staggering investment worth ₹989.8 billion to boost coal evacuation traffic. The PMO will monitor 14 of these projects so that these can be completed between 2020 and 2022, said an official spokesperson of Indian Railways, adding that 15 of these are existing line, which has been lined up for extensions command a length to the tune of 2,178 km. In addition, projects of about worth 6,445 km would involve doubling, tripling, and adding a fourth line on score of these routes. Apart from these, the Indian has lined up gauge conversion with a length of 636 km, he added.
