In an attempt to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, railways has planned to harness 1000 MW of solar power through developer-mode by installing solar plants on railway buildings/ stations and through land based plants across the country, Minister of State for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, and Mines, said in a recent statement. He stated that ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with railways for cooperation in the areas of renewable energy and the ministry has sanctioned subsidy for aggregate 500 MWp capacities to railways with an estimated Central Financial Assistance of Rs. 600-cr for Grid connected solar rooftop systems.
