In its bid to streamline rail traffic across the Mumbai Metropolitan City and in its suburban areas, the Indian Railways has cleared a staggering sum of Rs.691cr. The projects in question included 30 new road over bridges (ROBs) and 23 road under bridges (RUBs), wherein, railways would bear Rs. 331.91cr, while the rest of the amount would be borne by the state government. These apart, Shakuntala Railway, a narrow-gauge railway line currently being operated by private owners has also been allotted Rs. 22-cr for its facelifts and conversion into broad gauge. Besides, four railway electrification projects in different sections of the state have also been sanctioned. In addition to this, Rs. 148-cr for traffic facility works, Rs. 636-cr for Metropolitan Transport Planning have been allocated for the suburban section of Mumbai, said official sources.
