Railway unveils Rs. 972-cr rail lines

In its quest to boost rail connectivity between India and Bangladesh, the Railway ministry is contemplating to connect Tripura with Bangladesh from three sides, Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain recently said in a statement. He further added that for the project, which entails an investment of Rs.972 crore, the ministry has already cleared a plan to connect the Tripura state capital, Agartala, with Akhaura in Bangladesh. In addition, there is also a plan for connecting Belonia, the southernmost town in Tripura with Chittagong Port of Bangladesh through Feni district of the neighboring country. Another route will connect Sabroom, the southernmost town in Tripura, with Chittagong port. The process of laying the 15.054 km-long railway tracks to connect Agartala with Akhaura in Bangladesh and will be completed in two years and out of the total 15 km-long track, a stretch of 5 km will be on the Indian side and the rest in Bangladesh and the project cost would be borne by the Indian government.
