Cumi plans new plant in Kochi

A leading player in the field of material sciences, Carborundum Universal Cumi , a part of the Murugappan group, recently decided to set up a new unit in Kochi to manufacture engineered materials for high-end applications, Vice Chairman, Murugappa group, MM Murugappan said, claiming that the new facilities including a zirconia bubble fusion unit and two alumina fusion units will result in the creation of one of the most advanced and integrated electro mineral complexes in the world. The new units will add about 25,000 tones of fused mineral generation with potential sales of $30 million, Managing Director of Cumi, K Srinivasan said, and added that it will be able to manufacture a wide range of alumina, silicon carbide, zirconia, engineered and treated grains with new facilities that will find applications in diverse industries including engineering, energy, and environment. Cumi’s turnover is expected to touch Rs.2200 crore in the current fiscal, 35% of which will come from the electro-mineral plant in Kochi. The other Cumi divisions are spreading across different states and also in Russia and South Africa, he said.
