Railway to get first DFC trains on Independence Day
In an encouraging development in the rail sector, Indian Railways is set to get its first publicly-owned dedicated corridor for freight trains on August 15, when the country celebrating its 72nd Independence Day. The PM will dedicate the 190-km railway DFC line between Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and Phulera in Rajasthan falling under the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). For the railways, which is facing stiff competition from roadways in freight traffic, this can come as a fresh lease of life as the project is finally taking shape even though partially after 12 years of its formation. The feeder route at Tundla is already in place and the Ateli-Phulera route will be functional on August 15. The ₹814 billion-project of Eastern and Western DFCs will cover a total of 3,360 km track, of which around 1,500 km falls in the western region starting from Dadri to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, said official sources.
