Railway rolls out ₹894-cr cross-country bridge ventures
In order to avoid trains stopping at signals, the Indian Railways has decided to build 250 ROBs and RUBs at busy railway junctions identified across the country, and construction is set to start shortly. The ₹894.47 crore project is scheduled is to be completed by 2020-21. Approaches of several busy railway stations have only two rail tracks and the rail-over- and under bridges will be constructed to avoid surface crossing on approaches to the stations and reducing train stoppages. The bridges will also remove bottlenecks and ensure faster movement of trains. The Railways is also considering increasing the speed of trains at crossovers from the current 15 km/hr to 30 km.hr. The Indian Railways in recent years has cut down travel-time between destinations by introducing fast trains like Vande Bharat Train 18 and Gatimaan Express so that people can opt for trains instead of flights.
