Railway plans ₹22,242-cr suburban rail network

The Railways will take over the implementation of projects worth ₹22,242 crore, which are a part of the suburban rail network across cities. The suburban project will be implemented with 20% share each by the State and the Centre, and 60% will be mobilized via SPVs. Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar informed that the ₹1,745 crore suburban project will be implemented by the South Western Railways, while the SPV set up for the purpose will start implemention after a decision on the DPR has been taken by the Centre. Of the ₹1745 crore projects, the doubling of line between Baiyappanahalli and Hosur (₹424 crore), the doubling of line between Yesvantpur-Lottegahalli-Hebbal-BanaswadiBaiyappanahalli-Channasandra (₹170 crore), conversion of 15 DEMU rakes to MEMU ones (₹56 crore), and procurement of 11 MEMU rakes (₹400 crore), have already been sanctioned. Automatic signaling between Baiyappnahalli and Hosur, Baiyappanahalli-YesvantpurTumukuru, Bengaluru-Mandya and Yesvantpur and Yelahanka is awaiting approval.
