Railway Ministry Approves Final Location Survey for New Line in Sikkim

In a significant move to boost rail connectivity in Sikkim, the Railway Ministry has approved the final location survey for a new railway line from Melli to Dentam via Jorethang and Legship. The survey will be carried out by the Northeast Frontier Railway at an approved cost of ₹2.25 crore.
This proposed line is expected to bridge critical infrastructure gaps by connecting remote regions in southern and western Sikkim, including Dentam near the India-Nepal border at Chiwabhanjyang, to the national railway network. The project marks a key step toward enhancing accessibility and fostering socio-economic development in the Himalayan state.
