Northern Railway has fast-tracked Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line which is being constructed at an investment of ₹2,7249 crore. General Manager, Ashutosh Gangal, informed that the northern railway has decided to complete the 272-km long line by the end of December 2022. Out of this 111-km section, the 97-km-long line will be laid in a tunnel. Talking about the progress in railway line he said that it is the link project of Jammu to Srinagar to Baramulla line and is being executed in four phases. The most difficult part was the connectivity of Katra to Banihal as Katra has been connected from both sides and Banihal has connectivity till Baramulla. Though the project has engineering challenges, the railway is reviewing its work regularly.
