Pune metro
When the Pune Metro carried out its first trial run recently, it became the fastest metro project to have reached the milestone (30 months) among Metro projects in the country as the work is on track for the first stretch of 5 km becoming operational in April this year. The entire ₹11,420-crore project comprising two corridors of 31.25-km length is likely to be completed by March 2022. The Pune Metro is being built by the Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) in a 50:50 JV of the Centre and the Maharashtra government. Its first 16.589-km long corridor will stretch from PCMC to Swargate and have 5 underground stations and 9 elevated stations. The second 14.665-km long corridor will extend from Vanaaz to Ramwadi with 16 stations, informed MD of Maha Metro, Dr Brijesh Dixit. After a lull last year because of the elections in May and November – work on the project started in December 2016, with tunneling having started on the five-km underground stretch connecting Shivaji Nagar to Swargate and work on the over ground stretches on Corridor-I and Corridor-II also moving fast.
