Pralhad Joshi Inaugurates 240 TPD Biomass Pellet Plant in Haryana to Boost Clean Energy

Joshi highlighted the Government of India’s new policy mandating biomass pellet or MSW charcoal co-firing in all coal-based thermal power plants. Plants must now co-fire 5% biomass nationwide, while those in the Delhi-NCR region will adopt a 7% blend. At least half of all biomass used in NCR will be sourced from local paddy residue and stubble, helping curb stubble burning and strengthening rural supply chains.
The new Rewari facility will convert crop residues such as paddy straw, mustard straw and cotton stalks into biomass pellets for power plant co-firing. The Minister said this will cut carbon emissions, reduce pollution, create rural jobs and offer farmers an additional income stream—aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a sustainable, energy-secure India.
Joshi noted that Haryana is rapidly emerging as a clean energy leader, with over 12 GW of installed capacity and a target to reach 24 GW. The State has already installed 2.8 GW of renewable energy, including 2.4 GW of solar. Over 45,000 households have adopted rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and more than 1.74 lakh solar pumps have been deployed under PM-KUSUM, enabling farmers to irrigate using clean energy.
He also highlighted Haryana’s progress in green hydrogen projects in Hisar, Panipat and Jhajjar, supported by a biomass potential of over 1,350 MW and 49 MW of waste-to-energy capacity across 26 units. Joshi reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to helping Haryana lead India’s clean energy transition and emerge as a global clean energy frontrunner.
