In this connection, the nodal agency has secured central funding assistance worth Rs.2,468 crore and the state will pitch in Rs.812 crore. The move will take couple of years to construct the first phase of the ring road planned along the outskirts of the city. The project in question, once commissioned is expected to decongest the traffic on the internal roads in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad area as most heavy vehicles will use new road connectivity. The first phase of the 129-km ring road will take at least three years to complete and nearly seven years for the entire stretch to be open to the public. The ring road will ease the congestion on the city roads as road users can easily access the ring road from the city areas and then go to the state and national highways without having to move through the city, PMRDA CEO Kiran Gitte said that work on the first stretch between Satara and Ahmednagar Road of 32-km will get underway with the central budgetary allocation.
