PM Modi Lays Foundation for ₹6,100 Cr Development Projects in Varanasi

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple significant projects in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, aimed at boosting connectivity and regional development. Among the major projects are multiple airport initiatives worth over ₹6,100 crore and various development schemes in Varanasi.
As part of enhancing regional connectivity, the Prime Minister initiated the expansion of the runway and the construction of a new terminal building at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, with an investment of approximately ₹2,870 crore. He also laid foundation stones for new civil enclaves at Agra Airport (₹570 crore), Darbhanga Airport (₹910 crore), and Bagdogra Airport (₹1,550 crore).
The event saw the inauguration of new terminal buildings at Rewa Airport, Maa Mahamaya Airport, Ambikapur, and Sarsawa Airport, collectively valued at over ₹220 crore. These facilities aim to handle over 2.3 crore passengers annually, with architectural designs inspired by regional heritage structures.
In line with his vision for superior sports infrastructure, the Prime Minister inaugurated Phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment of the Varanasi Sports Complex, under the Khelo India scheme and Smart City Mission, valued at over ₹210 crore. The redeveloped complex features a National Centre of Excellence, players’ hostels, sports science center, and various practice arenas. Additionally, a 100-bed hostel for boys and girls, along with a public pavilion, was inaugurated at the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium, Lalpur.
To promote tourism, PM Modi inaugurated development works in the Buddhist heritage area of Sarnath, including the creation of pedestrian-friendly streets, new sewer and drainage systems, and organized vending zones to support local handicraft vendors. Additional tourism initiatives at the Banasur and Gurudham temples, as well as the beautification of parks, were also part of the inaugurated projects.
