Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple infrastructure and development projects in Silchar, Assam, aimed at improving connectivity, logistics, and agricultural research capacity in the Barak Valley region.

Among the key projects, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Rs 24,000 crore Shillong–Silchar High-Speed Corridor, an access-controlled highway designed to significantly enhance regional connectivity across the North East. The corridor will connect Silchar with neighbouring states including Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura, while strengthening links with major trade routes and markets in eastern India and Southeast Asia. The project is expected to improve the movement of goods and passengers, boost trade and tourism, and position Barak Valley as a major logistics hub in the region.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated a new flyover in Silchar aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city and improving urban mobility. The flyover is expected to benefit thousands of commuters, including students and professionals travelling to key educational institutions in the area.

In addition, the foundation stone was laid for the region’s first agriculture college at Patharkandi. The new institution will support agricultural education, research, and innovation in the Barak Valley and is expected to promote modern farming practices while encouraging agri-startups among local youth.

These projects are part of a broader push to strengthen road infrastructure, urban connectivity, and agricultural research facilities in Assam, while creating new economic and employment opportunities across the Barak Valley.
