Amit Shah Inaugurates Rs 1,759 Cr Healthcare Infra Projects in Assam

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated several major healthcare infrastructure projects of the Assam Government in Guwahati, strengthening the state’s medical education and cancer treatment facilities. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Among the key projects inaugurated was the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital, built at a cost of about Rs 675 crore. The facility is expected to significantly enhance medical education and healthcare services in the region by providing advanced treatment and training infrastructure.

The Home Minister also inaugurated the Golaghat Cancer Centre and the Tinsukia Cancer Centre, each built at a cost of Rs 135 crore. These centres are part of the state’s efforts to expand specialised cancer treatment facilities and improve access to oncology services for patients across Assam and neighbouring states.

Shah inaugurated the Diphu Medical College and Hospital, developed at a cost of Rs 220 crore, the Barpeta Medical College and Hospital built at a cost of Rs 284 crore, and the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital constructed at a cost of Rs 310 crore. These institutions are expected to strengthen the state’s tertiary healthcare network while expanding opportunities for medical education and research.

Together, the newly inaugurated projects represent a combined investment of around Rs 1,759 crore and aim to significantly improve healthcare access across different regions of Assam, while also expanding the state’s capacity for medical education and specialised treatment.
