PM Inaugurates ₹8,800 Cr Vizhinjam International Deepwater Port in Kerala

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Developed at a cost of ₹8,800 crore, the port is India’s first dedicated container transshipment hub and a key milestone under the Viksit Bharat vision. The Prime Minister highlighted that the port’s capacity will triple in the coming years, enabling it to handle the world’s largest cargo vessels with ease.
Strategically located near one of the busiest global sea routes and offering a natural draft of nearly 20 meters, Vizhinjam Port is poised to enhance India’s logistics efficiency, reduce dependence on foreign transshipment hubs, and strengthen its role in global trade.
