Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around Rs 19,480 crore in Guwahati, Assam, aimed at strengthening energy infrastructure, connectivity, and tourism facilities in the state.

Among the key projects inaugurated was the upgradation of the Numaligarh–Siliguri Pipeline, which is expected to enhance petroleum product transportation capacity and improve energy supply across the region. The Prime Minister also highlighted the establishment of the world’s first second-generation bio-ethanol plant at Golaghat, which will contribute to cleaner fuel production and support India’s biofuel and energy sustainability goals.

In addition, the projects include the development of cruise terminals at Nimati Ghat and Bishwanath Ghat on the Brahmaputra River. The terminals are expected to boost river cruise tourism, improve waterway connectivity, and create new economic opportunities for local businesses, artisans, and service providers.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the Lower Kopili Hydro Power Project, which will contribute to strengthening renewable energy generation in the region and support the growing electricity demand of Assam and the North East.

These projects form part of a broader infrastructure push aimed at strengthening energy security, improving waterway tourism infrastructure, and accelerating economic development in Assam and the wider North East region.
