Paradip Port in Odisha has created history by becoming the fastest ever to achieve 100 million tonnes (MMT) of cargo throughput in a fiscal, reaching the milestone on 27 November. This marks the 9th consecutive year the port has crossed the 100 MMT mark, recording 100.15 MMT—a 4.78% year-on-year growth—and achieving the feat 12 days earlier than last fiscal.

In FY 2024–25, the 100 MMT mark was reached on 9 December 2024. This year, the milestone was achieved in 241 days, compared to 253 days last year, highlighting significant gains in efficiency.

Paradip Port Authority (PPA) attributed the achievement to faster operations, continuous system upgrades and strong support from stakeholders. Growth in coastal thermal coal, container cargo, gypsum & flux, POL and steel cargo has further strengthened Paradip’s emergence as India’s leading coastal shipping hub.

Coal continues to be the port’s largest cargo segment, accounting for around 45% of total throughput and recording 3.76% Y-o-Y growth. Other cargo categories also posted impressive gains:
  • Container cargo: up 32%
  • Gypsum & flux: up 24%
  • Steel cargo: up 35%
  • POL: up 31%
With sustained operational improvements and rising coastal shipping volumes, Paradip Port is rapidly consolidating its position as one of India’s most efficient and high-performing ports.
