NMC sanctions ₹357-cr for road widening

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) has cleared ₹357 crore for twin road stretches to be widened and concretized. These include the Kelibag Road and Old Bhandara Road in Central Nagpur. Civic body officials said that they have approved a proposal to seek funds of ₹137.41 crore for Kelibag Road project from the state government under the Maharashtra Golden Jubilee Urban Renewal Mega Mission and also sought 70% of ₹122.14 crore needed for land acquisition and shifting utilities. The 1,030m road from Central Avenue to CP and Berar College will be widened to 24m, followed by concretization. The Union transport minister has sanctioned funds worth ₹220 crore for land acquisition, widening and concretization of Old Bhandara Road and has sanctioned ₹1,000 crore from the CRF for carrying out various projects in the city. As per the proposal, NMC requires ₹116.81 crore for land acquisition; ₹5.33 crore for shifting drinking water and electricity networks; and ₹15.27 crore for carrying out civil works.
