In order to overcome the countless handicap in road building during rainy season, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), has decided to procure micro surfacing road asphalting technology machines, which can asphalt the road even in rainy season and asphalted roads withstand the accumulation of water with no damaging impact, said an official spokesperson of the civic body, adding that it will be the first civic body in Maharashtra to deploy such machines. Currently, NHAI is the only authority engaging these machines for carrying out road construction and repairing national highways during rainy season. In this regard, a city-based Anjani Logistics, operator of road jetpatcher, gave a demo of the machine by asphalting a 100 metre stretch on RPTS Road between Surendra Nagar and Ajni Square, recently. Top brass of the civic body witnessed the asphalting work and opined that the machine can be beneficial for NMC in various manners as it is also a cold mix technology. As a matter of fact, the best part is that polymer is used in it and hot mix tar is destroyed when water accumulates and the polymer prevents seepage of water into the road thereby prolonging its durability, they insisted. Dwelling in detail on the newest technology, Narendra Jichkar of Anjani Logistics said that the cost of road asphalting reduces by 50% in the technology as hot mix tar costs 400 per sq. m, while micro surfacing costs only 200 per sq. m., he claimed.
