NITI Aayog clears Rs.10,947-cr for urban infra

The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) has recently cleared Rs. 10,947-cr for the third phase of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), railway ministry's chief spokesperson, Anil Saxena said, adding that the Aayog documents, the MUTP III appraisal note is a joint venture of the railway ministry and the state government comprises a bouquet of railway projects to be completed over a period of three to five years. It aims at improving the suburban network on a macro scale and one of the prime finance components of MUTP is World Bank loans, which have to be repaid equally by the railways. The MUTP phase III has the Rs. 2,618-cr Panvel-Karjat new suburban line, Rs. 3,555-cr Virar-Dahanu quadrupling (addition of two lines), the procurement of trains at Rs. 2,899-cr and Rs. 428-cr for the elevated connector between Airoli and Kalwa.
