The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has recently launched the construction work on the affordable housing project, said chairman Deepak Mhaisekar, elaborating that work commenced on affordable housing project in Wathoda where the trust is constructing 264 flats for economically weaker section (EWS). On other projects, Mhaisekar said that the detailed project report (DPR) of Tarodi Buzurg (Umred Road) would be examined by the urban development department (UDD) and once it is clear, the trust will float the tenders. The DPR for Tarodi Khurd has been received and is being sent to state government for approval. A total 4,600 EWS flats will be constructed under these three projects. In addition, NIT also plans to construct low income group (LIG) flats at Wanjri for families whose income is between Rs.3 lakh and Rs.6 lakh per annum for which the DPR is being prepared and that the cost of the unit will be around Rs.12 lakh. NIT has received 16,000 online applications under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and all the applicants will be allotted housing units, he claimed.
